Green cleaning is a good business decision.

Correctly implementing a green cleaning program can improve indoor air quality and provide many healthy benefits. Based on studies of buildings switching to green cleaning:

  • Airborne dust inside the building decreased by 52%
  • Volatile organic chemical (VOC) concentrations decreased by 49%*
  • Bacteria decreased by 40%*
  • Fungi colony-forming units decreased by 61%*
  • Illness reduced by 24%**
  • Doctor visits decreased by 34%**
  • Antibiotic treatment decreased by 24%**
  • Days absent decreased by 46%

Cleaner Living Services performs janitorial services that are as environmentally preferred as possible. In addition to green cleaning products, we also use environmentally preferred equipment and techniques.

As an example, Cleaner Living Services uses a vacuum that picks up particles as small as .3 micron, where most bags can only capture 1 micron.

This means even the smallest particles, such as dust mites, dust mite eggs, bed bugs and bed bug eggs are captured and eliminated from your environment.

What LEED means for cleaning existing buildings and cleaning

In regards to the use of green cleaning products and materials, the LEED threshold for compliance is 75% of items purchased need to be considered "green" by the LEED standards.

The referenced standards for LEED compliance include products that are Green Seal certified, UL EcoLogo certified, or recognized by the EPA’s Safer Choice program (formerly the Design for the Environment-DfE) or cleaning devices that use only ionized water or electrolyzed water and have third-party verified performance data.

CLS uses cleaning products, equipment and liners that meet LEED standards and we are LEED v4 compliant in the products and materials we use in your facility.

Additionally, we implement procedures with green equipment to assure your facility is cleaned in the most environmentally responsible way.

Sustainability Differs from Green Cleaning

Green cleaning has become mainstream and building owners always searching for ways to lessen their environmental impact.

The term “green” applies specifically to a product or service. It does not consider if the organization is compliant with all laws, treats workers fairly, pollutes the environment, or has other broad governance or operational issues. The term “sustainability” considers how the organization itself operates.

The seeds for the green cleaning movement were planted in the 1980s and took hold in 2002, when the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System for Existing Buildings.

LEED for existing buildings have become CLS’ best practices. Since inception, CLS implemented sustainable initiatives as a standard practices and products to reduce negative impacts on human health. looking to purchase services and products from companies that operate in a sustainable manner.
